update 1

I arrived at the EI Malawi head office (which doubles as the director’s home) on Saturday evening at around 7:30pm after what I figured was probably something like 26 hours in transit.  It turns out there is a team here from Africycle who are a fun bunch of people and I spent the first evening hanging out with them.  The flights themselves were pretty good although I was rather unimpressed with the movie selection provided by Ethiopian Airlines; the combination of Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz just doesn’t do it for me.

I spent the first day and half going to church, napping, playing volleyball and being cold.  Yes it is winter in Malawi and yes, it is cold.  I mean, it’s not so bad in the day time when the sun is out but it feels like it’s about 12 degrees out right now… which is kind of cold.  I should have packed better.  Shoot.

My schedule is starting to take shape which I’m pretty happy about.  Tomorrow will probably be spent around the office going over a Water & Sanitation proposal that EIC and EI Malawi just got approved for from CIDA and then Wednesday/ Thursday I’ll be visiting our project sites which will mean driving a couple of hours away for those days.  I’m not sure what the weekend will hold but then starting next Sunday I’ll be driving four hours to spend most of the week in Lilongwe for a series of meetings- get back on Saturday and then fly out for Uganda on Sunday.  I have a feeling this is going to go by fast.

So far the picture taking has been kept to a minimal but I’ll try and get some shots up here sometime soon.

    Hey Chris

Glad to hear that you arrived safely…I’m relieved that movie selection was the only complaint! I’m fairly sure that these next couple of weeks will fly past you incredibly fast!

I am stoked that I have friends who are so wildly adventurous! I can’t wait to see how these few weeks will effect your life! Soak it in…enjoy every moment…don’t worry about processing everything while it’s happening. You’ll have plenty of time to do that later!

    Peace and Love
