Phase 2 of my trip began on Sunday afternoon when I set off for Entebbe, Uganda via Nairobi. I don’t have much time to write but here is the summary of the last 24 hours or so.
Sunday:
11:15pm- Chris arrives in Entebbe,
11:30 to 11:45pm- Chris secures a taxi driver to take him to his hotel.
11:45pm: Chris checks in and goes to bed.
Monday:
9:00am: Chris receives wake up call scheduled for 9:30am.
9:45am - 10:15am: Chris eats breakfast and checks out.
10:30am: Chris meets EI staff person in the lobby who has his plane ticket for a flight to Northern Uganda. EI staff person informs Chris that the airline has called three times today to change the flight time. It will now be a 2:00pm departure instead of 12pm.
10:30am-1:00pm – Chris has lunch with EI staff person.
1:00-2:00pm- Chris is dropped off at the airport, checks in, and waits for his flight to board
2:30pm: Chris is still waiting for the flight to board.
2:40pm: attendants informs Chris and the 12 or so passengers that the flight has been cancelled because the pilot is too tired to fly. They offer to put everyone up in a hotel.
2:40-3:30pm: About 75% of the passengers decide they want to go back to Kampala instead of staying in a hotel. Chris decides the same (EI’s office is in Kampala) and accepts their offer of 50 000 shillings ($33) for transport. Cost of round trip from airport to Kampala: 100 000 shillings.
3:35pm: Chris talks to someone who looks like an NGO worker and it works out for them to share a taxi.
5:00pm- 7:00: Chris meets EI staff person in Kampala.
8:44pm: Chris posts blog and gets ready to try the airport again tomorrow at 2pm.
